On Thursday, 5 September, the Redstone Chapter of the American Helicopter Society hosted the 8th annual Barry Baskett Golf Tournament at Canebrake Club in Athens, Alabama. This annual tournament honors the contributions of the late Barry Baskett, who was the Director of Aviation Engineering for the Army Aviation Command. Proceeds from the tournament are allocated to the Redstone Chapter Scholarship Program.
This year 96 golfers participated in the event and 9 local Defense Contractors (Advanced Turbine Engine Company; Avion; Boeing; Camber Corporation; QinetiQ North America; Science and Engineering Services, Inc; SAIC; Altair; and MCR Aerodyne) provided sponsorship contributions. Thirteen thousand dollars in scholarships were recently awarded to Redstone Chaper students. Our goal is to continue providing at least five scholarships to qualified candidates on an annual basis. The Barry Baskett tournament helps make this goal achievable.
